"We walked along Grecia Avenue. She lived exactly six blocks from my building. As we walked along the waterfront, we saw at least three fireworks go off in the distance; little yellow glows with which the narcos announced some successful business at the foot of the hills. For some years now that had become a custom in the north, a way of making fun of the police, cutting them off in the dark".

"Wir sind die Grecia Avenue entlang gegangen. Sie wohnte genau sechs Blocks von meinem Haus entfernt. Als wir die Uferpromenade entlanggingen, sahen wir in der Ferne mindestens drei Feuerwerkskörper explodieren; kleine gelbe Knallkörper, mit denen die Narcos erfolgreiche Geschäfte am Fuße der Hügel ankündigten. Seit einigen Jahren ist das im Norden zu einem Brauch geworden, um sich über die Polizei lustig zu machen und sie im Dunkeln abzuschneiden".

“Caminamos por la avenida Grecia. Ella vivía a exactas seis cuadras de mi edificio. Mientras íbamos por la costanera, vimos estallar a lo lejos al menos tres fuegos artificiales; pequeños resplandores amarillos con los que los narcos anunciaban algún negocio exitoso a los pies de los cerros. Desde hace unos años que aquello se había transformado en una costumbre en el norte, una forma de burlarse de la policía, hacerle un corte de mangas desde la oscuridad.”
