The Divine discotheque was located on the first floor of an old mansion on Chacabuco Street. Its most striking feature was that the public that frequented the place was homosexual. Many considered the discotheque as a space that opened homosexuality to the public since the end of the military dictatorship. On 4 September 1993, a fire destroyed the entire venue. In the investigations, it was said that it was the result of an electrical malfunction. In this text, Lemebel was one of the first to question this thesis, stating that the electrical circuits never stopped working. Movilh, one of the organizations fighting for gay rights in Chile, has so far tried unsuccessfully to reopen the case, with the aim of proving that the fire was intentional against the gay community. Because of this crime, Movilh declared the fourth of September as the Day of Sexual Minorities.

Die Diskothek Divine befand sich im ersten Stock eines alten Herrenhauses in der Chacabuco Straße. Das auffälligste Merkmal war, dass das Publikum, das den Ort besuchte, homosexuell war. Viele betrachteten die Diskothek als einen Raum, der die Homosexualität seit dem Ende der Militärdiktatur für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich machte. Am 4. September 1993 zerstörte ein Brand den gesamten Veranstaltungsort. Bei den Ermittlungen wurde festgestellt, dass es sich um eine elektrische Fehlfunktion handelte. La discoteca Divine se situaba en el segundo piso de una antigua casona en la calle Chacabuco. Su característica más llamativa era que el público que frecuentaba el lugar era homosexual. Muchos consideraban a la discoteca como un espacio que abrió la homosexualidad a lo público desde el fin de la dictadura militar. El cuatro de septiembre del ‘93 un incendio destruyó todo el recinto. En las investigaciones se dijo que ello fue producto de un desperfecto eléctrico. En este texto fue uno de los primeros en cuestionar esa tesis, afirmando que los circuitos eléctricos nunca cesaron su funcionamiento. Movilh, uno de los uno de los organismos que lucha por los derechos de los homosexuales en Chile, hasta la fecha ha intentado reabrir el caso sin éxito, con la finalidad de demostrar que el incendio fue intencionado en contra de la comunidad homosexual. Por este crimen, Movilh declaró el cuatro de septiembre como el Día de las Minorías Sexuales.

“Cómo darse cuenta de que la escalera de entrada se derrumba en un estruendo de cenizas si el sonido es tan fuerte y todos sudan en el baile. Pero en un momento el chiste se transforma en infierno, como si la música y las luces acompañaran la escena dantesca que arde a puerta cerrada. Con demasiado calor para seguir bailando, demasiado terror para rescatar la chaqueta Levi’s en la guardarropía. Atrapados en el choclón de locas gritando, empujando, pisando a la asfixiada que prefiere morir de espanto. Buscando la puerta de escape que está cerrada, y la llave? Nadie sabe. Entonces a los baños dice alguien, que lo vio en una película, atravesando la pista encendida entre las brazas de locas que danzan con la Grace y la música que sigue girando.”
